Sea Wolf

  • L.A.'s Sea Wolf is Alex Church and L.A.'s Alex Church is Sea Wolf. Sea Wolf is a singer, just as Alex Church is a songwriter. Sea Wolf has a really good voice, and so too does Alex Church (sometimes he sounds like Donovan). Alex Church was once in the indie-pop band, Irving. Sea Wolf was never in Irving, because Sea Wolf wasn't born yet. Both Alex Church and Sea Wolf share a label (Dangerbird) with another Los Angeles band called Silversun Pickups. Sadly, Alex Church is only credited in the liner notes. Both Sea Wolf and Alex Church have shared bills with bands like Clinic, Earlimart and Ferraby Lionheart. - Oh My Rockness

The Jealous Girlfriends

  • Best album of 2008? with full objectivity, a resounding: "hell yes." Want a stand-out? Try: every last track on this disc ; All singles material. Holly Miranda and Josh Abbott's perfectly interwoven vocals are a match made in melody nirvana, while the arrangements ( courtesy of all four band members ) are simply stratospheric. Miranda's siren vocals would be enough of a draw, but there's so much more depth here, with song-craft that can (and will) stand the test of time. From the insanely gorgeous opener: 'Secret Identity' , to the brooding and wild 'Machines" ( the guitar work will bring older folk back to the best moments of the mid-90's ) to the beautiful,wordless-vocal moments of 'The Pink Wig To My Salieri....' To the revelatory 'Gifthorse....' Every track is stand-alone perfect and (in the truest sense of the word) brilliant. Indeed, NYC's best band have just dropped one of the greatest debuts in memory. - The Big Takeover

Ludlow Lions

  • Ludlow Lions make sharp, kinetic indie-pop. Melodies, words, some clang and squeal, rhythms both on-and-off kilter. This is threat level natural rock. Our EP is finished and coming out soon. We can’t wait for you to hear all of it, but for now you can hear some of it above.

Born in 2006, Ludlow Lions are a rock & roll, indie pop band from Brooklyn, NY. They share DNA with The Jealous Girlfriends and Nakatomi Plaza. Their roots suck sustenance from ground made fertile by XTC, Wire, Guided By Voices, Soft Boys, The Jam, Brian Eno, X, The Flamin Groovies, David Bowie, Pixies. . .

Most of their songs have guitars, bass, and drums, and Brendan’s voice. Often Jordan’s voice is there too. The guitars tend to be trebly and slicey and/or strummy, though sometimes they put some fuzz on, or pretend they are synthesizers. The bass and drums are the engine and the wheels, and even the road; without them, Ludlow Lions are a limp swatch of skin. Just lying there. Gross, man.
