Originally founded in Boston in 2005 by saxophonist Aaron Burnett and drummer Greg "TORCH" Sgrulloni, Sistine Criminals is a live experience like no other. Fuzing modern electronic dance genres such as drum n bass, house, dubstep, IDM, and hip-hop with a creative jazzy influence, the band successfully emulates the vibe of a live DJ while delivering an organic intensity only a live group of musicians can produce. Sistine Criminals currently consists of three core members: Greg ‘Torch’ Sgrulloni on drums, Aaron Burnett on synthesizers/saxophone, and recent addition, guitarist, Wylie Wynshaw. Sistine Criminals also features an on-call auxiliary line-up of instrumentalists, MC's, and vocalists. Currently based in Brooklyn, the band is active in the underground party and live music scene in New York City.
Seamlessly melding the sonic dynamics of noise and pop with throbbing bass lines, jagged angular synths, searing dark atmospheric guitars and urgent banshee vocals, Autodrone has quickly developed the attention of the UK and American Press garnering universally favorable reviews. Strike A Match is Autdrone's latest studio effort. Their debut album is darker, denser and more experimental, yet catchy and hook-laden than any of their previous work. The album has received a deluge of critical acclaim and has made it onto multiple "best of 2007" lists, thought it was unreleased at the time. Autrodrone have toured both the east and west coast, and have played festivals such as Pop Noise, ATJ, NEMO and CMJ.
Weep's music is 98% free of irony. Any stupid thing Weep does is done because Weep thought that it was the best thing to do. Sentimentality? Fuck yeah! Loud keyboards? What of it!? Choruses that pay-off like so many musical orgasms? Damn right! Completely ignoring what is "in"? You know it!
On the morning of his graduation from Vanderbilt University, singer/songwriter Mikey Wax received a letter that took nearly 20 years to get to him. It was from his late grandfather, who had written the letter when it was clear he had little time left to live. His grandfather requested the letter be handed to Mikey when he was a young man ready to enter “the real world.” Inside were words of love, hope and wisdom to make up for lost time that the two would never share together. Inspired by his grandfathers words, Mikey wrote the song “With You Goes,” which paved the way for his recent debut album, “Change Again.” With his diploma in hand, Mikey moved back home to Long Island and contacted local engineer/producer Bob Stander, who had a small but quality studio in his basement. The two began recording songs, and the collection of songs eventually turned into Wax’s first full-length studio album. It is a coming-of-age album with most of the subject matter dealing with change, uncertainty, love, and loss. The songs were placed in reverse order from the time they were written to allow the listener to hear the growth and maturity in the five years of writing that went into the album.
Since the albums release in November, “Change Again” has reached 46 on the iTunes top 100 pop albums charts in the U.S, and has also charted on the iTunes top 100 pop albums in Canada, Australia, and the UK. This is a very strong debut for an independent artist. The album has been continuing to spread through word-of-mouth, live shows, and social networking sites.
Last May, Mikey’s song “In Case I Go Again” was selected as the winner of The Unsigned Artist radio contest held by WRMF/97.9 FM, a top 40 radio station in South Florida. The contest was voted on by over 10,000 fans and several music industry professionals. In October, Mikey was selected to perform in the 2008 CMJ Marathon, a highly regarded festival in the music industry featuring some of the best up-coming artists from around the world. In November, Mikey made his debut television performance playing live on the CBS News Morning show in Florida reaching an audience of over 50,000 viewers. More recently, his song "Yes" was featured on MTV's The Real World.
On the touring front, this past December Mikey signed with the top national booking agency Supreme Entertainment, who also represent acts such as Ryan Cabrera, Eve 6, Nick Lachey, Nine Days, and Fastball. Mikey has been consistently touring the Northeast of the U.S since January, and has just returned from his first nation-wide tour of the U.S supporting Blackledge/Atlantic recording artist Josh Hoge. The tour hit many of the major cities and venues in the U.S.
2009 looks to be a great year for the upcoming singer and songwriter. With constant touring and the growing success of his debut album, Mikey Wax is developing loyal fans all over the world.
MONGREL MIX is a dynamic and innovative group which draws from a wide variety of American music forms. It’s name reflects the scope of originator Barry Preston’s musical roots, as well as the diverse backgrounds of the band’s members. Our production studio started out recording local pop bands, philadelphia jazz legends and african storytellers. We are now focusing all of our expertise and musical attention on our own Mongrel Mix.
Mongrel Mix describes their influences as "either old or dead" but their bluesy, funkified rhythms are anything but stale. Lead guitarist and vocalist Barry Preston is the driving force behind this outfit, and his talents are displayed with a variety of instruments. (two.one.five magazine)
